7x12x29 Constructed with a black canvas or fiberboard exterior, reinforced brass hardware, and leather strapping, this piece was built for field transport of maps, instruments, or official documents. Inside, the trunk retains its original unfinished wood and cloth lining, showing honest age and authentic wear consistent with use. A partial label from the Federal Works Agency / Public Roads Administration on the lid dates it to the transitional era of U.S. highway administration (circa 1910s–1940s).
